The SS Meredith Victory was a US cargo ship built for World Ward II. In December 1950 the ship's captain, Leonard LaRue, in contravention of orders, unloaded the ship of weapons and took on board 14,000 refugees fleeing an uncertain fate in the Korean War. Meredith Victory Publishing is named in commemoration of this act of historic bravery.
